Taxes & Accounting in Valencia
Valencian Community
Valencia's tax caseload is dominated by people who earn abroad and live here: remote employees, freelancers with foreign clients, and Digital Nomad Visa holders. For all of them the decisive question is the same and it is not about Valencia — it is whether you are a Spanish tax resident, because that single determination decides what Spain can tax.
Once residency is settled, the Valencian layer appears: the Generalitat Valenciana sets the regional half of the income tax scale and administers the region's own taxes. It is a smaller factor than residency, but it is the part that most online guidance, written generically for 'Spain', leaves out entirely.

Questions about this service
I am on a Digital Nomad Visa in Valencia. Am I automatically a tax resident?
Not automatically — the visa and tax residency are separate questions decided by different rules. In practice most people on the visa do become tax resident, but the special regime for inbound workers may apply, and whether it does changes the outcome substantially. Confirm it in your first year, not your second.
My clients are all outside Spain. Do I still register for VAT here?
Very likely yes, in some form — the place of supply rules decide it, not where the money arrives. Being paid from abroad does not put you outside the Spanish system. This is the single most common assumption we correct for freelancers arriving in Valencia.
